Tynker Acquires Pythonroom to Expand High School Computer Science Curriculum

Tynker to Broaden Range of Advanced Courses and Tools to Learn Mainstream Programming Languages

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – May 10, 2018 - Tynker, the number one game-based coding platform that has helped more than 60 million kids start coding, today announced it has acquired Pythonroom, provider of an interactive, web-based learning management system. Founded in 2014 by Abhinav Mathur, Keshav Saharia and Rohan Naik, Pythonroom enables educators to easily bring coding education into the classroom so students can learn mainstream coding languages in a fun and engaging way. With Pythonroom, Tynker’s platform now includes a new range of courses that serve high-school level educators and students, building on its strong coursework foundation for pre-K, elementary and middle school students.

Python is a critical language for students interested in computer science, as it has become a standard tool for modern computing applications like machine learning and automation. However, learning these types of programming languages in a traditional setting can be intimidating to students, which is why Pythonroom’s student-friendly curriculum provides a critical bridge and increases a student’s chances of success. Pythonroom’s high school computer science curriculum was designed in concert with a community of educators and students and, to date, over 35,000 schools and over 400,000 students have used the Pythonroom platform to develop Python programming skills.

“Pythonroom is regarded as one of the best Python learning management systems in the world and has already made an extremely positive impact on hundreds of thousands of high school students, helping them build valuable skills for their future careers,” said Krishna Vedati, co-founder and CEO, Tynker. “The addition of Pythonroom to our kids coding platform is a valuable asset for schools, educators and students who are looking to take programming skills to the next level in a fun, intuitive and engaging way.”

Pythonroom fits seamlessly with Tynker’s mission of making coding fun, accessible and appealing to students by meeting them where their interests lie—like flying drones or programming games and animations—while simultaneously providing them with the foundational tools they need to learn how to code.

“We are thrilled to join forces with Krishna, Srini and Kelvin as well as the rest of the world-class team at Tynker,” said Abhinav Mathur, CEO, Pythonroom. “Their success in helping over 60 million kids begin their coding journeys is nothing short of phenomenal and makes Pythonroom a perfect addition to the suite of offerings they have for schools, teachers and students, especially at the middle and high school grade levels.”

Students and teachers can access Pythonroom’s current Python lessons by visiting Tynker’s computer programming curriculum on Tynker.com. Leveraging Pythonroom’s capabilities, Tynker plans to add more advanced programming courses focused on web design, exploring computer science, AP computer science principles and more.
